Caboom cadang. Caldongo.

Fray Bentos September 2009.
Winter is in its final stages and the first signs of spring are beginning to peep through. A new sister missionary arrives in the bus station. She waits with her luggage wrapped warmly in a heavy black coat.

October arrives and the small bulbs of color begin to dot the trees. Birds busily make their new nests in upper crooks and crannies of the rooftops. The missionary has unpacked and is busy scurrying here and there with many things to do. She sheds the coat for a light pastel cardigan, almost oblivious to the subtle constant workings of Nature around her.

Months continue to pass. The flower buds become full bloomed roses. The naked trees become dressed with the finest leaves of green. The mild temperatures rise, and the sister missionary continues running here and there under the hot fiery sun.

Now the hottest days have passed, the days are getting shorter. The cardigan has long been shed and replaced with a light, cotton short sleeve blouse.

Without any help or reminding from us, the seasons continue to change, and we find ourselves bypassed by the hare of time—who slow yet diligently always seems to beat us in the race.

Summer is going, and fall is coming; I will successfully live all four season here in the little town of Fray Bentos.

Yes, my friends. Transfers have come, and with them gone is my chinita friend. I stay to welcome in a fresh new missionary straight from the halls of the training center.

We stand here anxious to meet her and to welcome her into her new Uruguayan home.

I have to go to the capital tomorrow to pick her up.

Wish me luck!

We will need your prayers a lot to get the work going here; we’ve hit some walls and pot holes, but I know that with faith and hard work, all things are possible. Plus the Lord loves his children, and I know that he has many that he is preparing to receive and hear the message of repentance and salvation.
