A Fourth of July Abroad

Sunday was great. It is strange how the Lord works sometimes. During sacrament meeting we had 18 investigators in church (a lot thanks to the baptism; also Gimena, the twelve-year-old that got baptized three weeks ago brought her brother and a bunch of her friends to watch her lead the music during the program). We had only been expecting seven. What was interesting is that our first Sunday of the change, we had set the goal of having 18 people in church when later it turned out no one showed. I guess the Lord always provides a way.

The day before, we went over to the house of an old investigator who helped us make a HUGE four-layer cake for the baptism. We put dulce de leche between every layer than on top had a meringue frosting with handmade flowers and petals. On the top we wrote “Teach Me to Walk in the Light,” the title of the family’s favorite hymn.

What was cool was that it motivated this investigator Maria to come to church and to see the baptism! She has a Catholic background and isn’t much of a church gooer but told us as she was leaving that she liked the baptism and that it did seem “truer,” as we say, than that of the sprinkling heads. If she only knew how right she was.

Saturday was the Fouth of July. Happy Fourth of July! This was my second Independence Day that I have successfully and patriotically celebrated this great day on foreign soil. But do not fear, we made sure this day was full of patriotic celebrations. For the July picnic, we coordinated with the de Paulo family to do a hot dog cook out, with potato chips, ketchup, and soda. Of course we finished it off with red, white, and blue Jello. Perfect! We had fun painting our faces and doing roman candles off the roof.

For some reason the cold here has gone away. We feel we are in a very pleasant fall season. I hardly ever wear my coat around, just when it gets chill inside. I’m just waiting for someone to end the joke and for the real cold to begin.

Today for our free day, we went over to the family Galvan A (who just got baptized) to make cookies with the kids and Maria. It was super fun. I was going to take pictures, but my camera died just before. Lame.

Anyway, love you lot! I’m good, and this keyboard is to blame for all the typos promise.
