El sapo a la sapa la tiene por muy guapa

Last week I received an email from my last companion, Hermana Allphin. It was full of updates about our investigators in Pocitos. It was great to hear of all of the effects that one transfer (this term is used in place of “change” especially for Ruthie) can have.

Mom, I want to wish you the best luck with your new calling, I know you will do amazing as you have been well prepared by the Lord. Fabio, our recent convert, shared something with us that touches in that topic. He had been a little nervous last week about receiving the Aaronic priesthood this Sunday. He has great respect for the privilege and responsibility of being a priesthood holder and didn’t feel that he was prepared to receive it yet. Maybe with more study of the scriptures or more experience, he thought he would be ready then.

In his interview with the bishop, the bishop shared with him the story of the disciples of the Lord. The disciples came from a variety of backgrounds; the majority from humble labor work without any degree of scholastic skill or knowledge. This shows us that the Lord often does not choose the smartest ones or the most intellectual, but rather those who are humble and wiling to learn.

With this new perspective of the situation, Fabio felt at peace, knowing that as long as he held to his trust in the Lord, he would be directed and guided in ways to hold and exercise his priesthood power.

This is our final week of this change/transfer. Hermana Murdock and I have decided to raise the bar, and we have gone on a diet—fruits and vegetables only. Yes, I have even given up oats for a time. Well we shall see how long we can hold out. Unfortunately too many people love us here which usually leads to lots and lots of tortas and other dulce things.

And may I please have some updates on this Swine Flu? Everyone here is running around in face masks and schools have been suspended until further notice. Frankly I think it’s an excuse for a few more holidays.

Love you all
Hermana Salisbury
