First Companion: Sister Ashlee Allphin

We've got a letter and forwarded picture from the family of Susie's first companion: Sister Ashlee Allphin.

-----

"I think the picture turned out blurry (we took it from off the top of a car! ) but I hope you can see a little. This was Hermana Salisbury´s first Sunday in the mission and the wonderful barrio de Pocitos! (This is in front of our apartment complex and our windows are the ones on ground floor with colors (if you can see them). :)"

Hermana Allphin

Hello!

I'm Hermana Allphin's mother, Linda. We received this picture today and Ashlee asked me to forward it to you. What a darling daughter you have. We haven't received a letter from Ashlee yet, only the photo. We're concerned that maybe her letter didn't make it through, which has never happened before. Maybe it will come later today. We were anxious to hear about her new companion. If you have a minute, we'd love to hear from you and learn more about Hermana Salisbury.

We live in Bountiful, Utah. My husband and I live with my 86 year old mother and take care of her. Ashlee grew up on a dairy farm in Missouri. This is where she graduated from high school. My husband played football at BYU in the 60's, and then served a mission to Norway. We met at BYU and married in 1972. He coached in Utah for 8 years, and then we moved to Missouri and purchased the farm. We milked cows as the "side job" while he coached and taught school as well. I also worked part time for the school district as coordinator of the Drug Education Program for the school district. When Ashlee left for college, we sold the farm, moved to Utah, and purchased 25 acres near Fairview, Utah, just north of Manti. We will build a home at some point, but are caring for my mother now.

We have five children. We have three married sons living in Utah Valley, and a daughter living in Boise. Ashlee is the youngest. She was a runner and singer in high school, but loves all sports (thanks to her dad.). She has her associates of Nursing degree from BYUI and is a Registered Nurse. Her plans are to return to BYUI in the fall and get her Nursing Bachelors.

She has loved her mission in Uruguay. It's hard to believe that she will be home on May 1st. Our whole family has been blessed through her letters and testimony. The mission president and wife, the Petersons, are wonderful people. We had a chance to meet Hermana Peterson over the Christmas holiday, as she had a son at BYU who was injured and in the hospital. We spent a couple of evenings visiting with her and hearing about the mission. What a sweet and wonderfully caring lady. These missionaries are in good hands.

We are excited for the 6 weeks that our daughters will have together. Ashlee is a happy and enthusiastic personality, a very hard worker, and a very obedient servant. She has enjoyed her trainer opportunities, and is so excited to have so many hermanas coming into the mission at once. These young ladies bring a very special spirit to the missionary work.

We look forward to hearing from you and staying in touch while our daughters are together.

Have a great day!

Linda Allphin
